Meet Greg Clemons, a native of San Diego, an avid overlander, photographer, adventurer, and proud owner of a Turtleback Getaway Series trailer since 2020.
Greg enjoys venturing into new terrain with each getaway. In fact, with over 40,000 miles trekked in the last three years, he’s only seen the same campsite twice. When it came down to his choice in trailers, Greg says he went with Turtleback because they were the only ones willing to accommodate his customization preferences. “When everyone was saying ‘no,’ Turtleback was saying ‘yes,’” Greg reflected. Even when it came to simple color choices, no one else was able to meet his requests.
Ultimately, it was the people at Turtleback that won Greg over. Beyond customization, Turtleback went above and beyond to creatively innovate for Greg. He says his Getaway trailer was the first prototype to include a shower. And it was after purchasing his trailer that Greg found out about Turtleback’s “Herd” community. “I’ve never met anyone with a Turtleback that I wouldn’t camp with again,” Greg says. The Herd community shows up for each other with helpful recommendations, routes, waypoints, trails, and more. New routes are all the more enjoyable with the built-in camaraderie through Turtleback’s Herd.
When asked about his favorite features of the Getaway trailer, Greg commented on a few of the luxuries that make his longer trips more enjoyable. In the chill of the morning, the ability to wash your hands and face in a sink with hot water levels up your experience and makes longer trips more appealing. Practically, Greg loves the ruggedness of his trailer. After pushing it hard, across aggressive washboard, rocks, and more, Greg says, “It has never let me down.”
Greg’s Getaway, flying the BadFlag, has taken him across the country from California to Colorado. It’s seen the dunes, hot springs, and unimaginable beauty of Death Valley ten times in unique locations. It’s ventured the breathtaking San Juan mountains of Colorado, and numerous spots in between. He has a lofty goal to camp 52 nights each year. While that goal has yet to be achieved, he comes close every time. Without fail, he enjoys regularly getting stopped and asked about his Turtleback setup, complete with his 4×4 Colorado tent.
